Peya by Hanna Maciejewska

I’ve been absolutely captivated by Japanese knitwear designs for a while now! The elegance, ethereal aesthetic, and those beautiful lightness and clear lines just resonate with my creative soul! That’s why I’m beyond thrilled that my design is featured in Amirisu Volume 1 / 2025! It feels surreal! While it's an incredible honor, it also comes with a lot of pressure. I really wanted my piece to embody the true spirit of Japanese knitwear. Of course, I wouldn't dare compare myself to the stunning, intricate designs of Hitomi Shida and other amazing Japanese designers, but I dreamt of capturing even a hint of that style. Honestly, that was the hardest part of the whole process!
If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?
Oh, if I were to knit that sweater in another color, pink would totally be the way to go! There’s something about pink that just brings everything to life, right? Whether it’s a soft pastel or a bold fuchsia, it adds this fun, cheerful vibe to any project.

Knitting has been a part of my life since my grandmother taught me the craft as a little girl. My sister took it a step further and showed me how to make my first sweater, that led me to design my own pieces throughout school and university. About ten years ago, I discovered my true passion for knitting and knitwear design. Now, mu husband and I run an online store, dyedyedone.com, where he hand-dyes beautiful yarns and we sell cool knitting accessories.
What is your New Year’s resolution?
I’m not really into making big resolutions, but I definitely want to focus on taking better care of myself. I’ve realized that I often get lost in my knitting patterns and forget to spend quality time with my family. So, while I might still design in a few projects, my goal is to simplify things and prioritize moments with my loved ones. I want to create more memories together.
What are your favourite gardens or parks?
One of my favorite places is my own garden, a little slice of paradise that I’ve cultivated with my family over the years. There’s something truly special about nurturing plants and flowers together, as each season brings a new opportunity for growth and bonding.
