Crayola by María Jesús Camus

What, if any, challenges did you encounter during the design process? For me, designing any garment is always a challenge. In this particular design, I wanted to try a new construction that just popped into my mind and bring it to life: the shoulders are knit horizontally and joined to the garment without seams. I unraveled that section several times haha, but I think it was worth it.
If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?
The name of the design is Crayola (like the typical crayons of my generation (90s)). I wanted to simply immerse myself in a universe of yarn and play with putting colors next to each other to create new palettes. I think any combination could work if I keeps the spirit of the design. It reminds me of drawing with crayons like a child.

How did you start your knitting journey?
I learned to knit as a child, my beloved mother taught me, but I knit very basic things. I really started knitting (and soon designing) when I was pregnant with my first child, who is now 5 years old. When my own mother looked at the things I knitted as an adult, she was amazed. She passed away a little over a year ago, and every time I design something, I imagine her saying "This is amazing. I'm proud of you."
What is your New Year’s resolution?
This year I want to continue growing as a knitwear designer and make my work more well-known. I would also like to enjoy time with my family every day, even if that means spending less time at work. I see how my children grow at the speed of light (and my husband and I getting older at the same speed haha), and I don't want to miss anything!
What are your favourite gardens or parks?
Ok, 2 answers: the "Parque botánico de Viña del Mar" in Chile, and my humble but beloved backyard.
