Equinox by Thien-Kieu Lam

What, if any, challenges did you encounter during the design process?
There weren’t any challenges for this particular design, but as with any design there are many decisions to be made. I tend to swatch several variations of the same motif before choosing the one I think will work best for the project in mind.
If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?
The sample is worked in Argile , which is a pink shade that makes me think of blossoms. My alternate choice would be a green–a nod to the beautiful foliage of a garden!

How did you start your knitting journey?
My mom is a talented seamstress so I grew up with an interest in sewing, textiles, and making clothes. I even considered studying fashion design! I never attempted knitting though, until my late twenties. I lived in the Washington, D.C. area at the time, and Looped Yarn Works in Dupont Circle was close to where I worked. On a whim, I signed up for an intro to knitting class, and immediately fell in love with the craft.
What is your New Year’s resolution?
My resolution for this year is to use more yarn from my stash and to buy less! I already have so many beautiful yarns and want to make a point of using them.
What are your favourite gardens or parks?
Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always make a trip to Eikandō Temple. The temple is actually a compound with many buildings connected by covered wooden walkways and staircases. Throughout the compound are small gardens, each with their own character, and the grounds are also very beautiful. Eikandō is a popular destination during fall foliage season, but I prefer visiting during the other seasons when there are few people and I can immerse myself in its serenity.
