Today's interview is with Mizuho, who designed Prelude, a long vest with beautiful vertical lines. The grainy knit of Woolfolk Fleck is also cute. It seems to go well with a clean outfit, such as a turtleneck and straight pants. The inspiration is cool, so please read on.
amirisu: What was the inspiration for this design?
Mizuho: When I first heard that the theme was music, rather than the song itself, I thought of the silence that foreshadows the music about to begin, and the scene of anticipation and tension as the conductor raises his baton and the performance begins.
The vertical lines in the center and back convey the idea that although it is silent now, the door to a new story will soon open. I thought it would be cute if there was a thin vertical line running from the neckline down the center of the long vest.
amirisu: What difficulties and ingenuity did you encounter during the design process?
Mizuho: I was wondering how thick the vertical lines on the front and back of the body should be, how many stitches there should be, and whether I should knit it face up or purl it, so I knitted a few swatches to think about it.
amirisu: If you were to knit another one, what colors would you use?
Mizuho: I think the dark orange lines on the whitish beige base are cute. Unfortunately, the specified yarn, Fleck, does not come in orange, so it would be nice to knit just the lines with a different yarn.
amirisu: Is there any music that you listen to while knitting, or music that helps you knit better?
Mizuho: Recently I've been knitting in silence, but if I do play some music, I like to play piano jazz at a low volume. I like the sound of the piano.
