Fantasy Knitting 8: I want to knit a Bixbite
Well, this is the first time since the series started that I'm introducing something I've already started knitting. Bixbite is a shawl designed by Finnish designer Veera Vällimäki. It's a brioche knitted shawl with an impressive feather-like pattern. It was released for a limited time in 2019, and then released to the general public a year or two later.
The specified yarn is Merino Single by La Bien Aimée. Apparently the popular colors Fluro Morganite (pink) and Malachite (green) were created specifically for this design. I've always thought it was cute, so when I was choosing samples to bring to the recent LBA pop-up, I asked Aimée to include this shawl. The one Aimée brought to Tokyo is the same color, but knitted with two strands of Alix / Felix . Compared to the specified Fingering, two strands of Alix is Sport, so it's a larger, fluffier shawl.
While preparing for the pop-up, we all agreed, "This is cute! (Of course it is)," and chose the colors together. I actually wanted to knit with the same colors, but I decided to change the colors after all, so I chose the new colors Inko (colorful green, pink, yellow, and light blue), Felix's Avoine (beige), and Helix's Bleu Royal (dark blue). I've already started knitting, and I'm excited to see Inko change colors over and over again, which is so cute.
The pattern isn't brioche throughout, but instead alternates between garter stitch and brioche, which is really cute.
When you choose your colors, try choosing one dark color (for the green part), one medium color (for the peach part), and one whitish color that matches the two. I think the contrast of colors is important.
