Today we're taking a closer look at Post, the pullover that is featured on the cover of the Japanese edition of Issue 27. The combination of pop colors and fresh combinations of stripes makes Post an eye-catching piece that would go particularly well with electronic music.
Let's talk to the designer, Alice Caetano.
amirisu: What was your inspiration for this design? Alice:I was thinking of sampling in music when I designed this sweater, and the idea of taking an element and cutting it up to make something new. For my design that element was stripes, which I cut up horizontally and vertically and made different combinations with.
amirisu: What, if any, challenges did you encounter during the design process? Alice:The biggest challenge was devising a way to make the order of the stripes visually interesting, but also without making the actual pattern too long and complicated.
amirisu: If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be? Alice:I'm really loving lilac and lavender shades at the moment so I think I'd like to use that as the main colour, with the contrasts in a pale beige and maybe a punchy red.
amirisu: Is there any particular music you like to listen to while knitting? If not, what kind of music do you enjoy in general? Alice:I think my favourite types of music to listen to when knitting are electronic, hip hop and jazz. If I’m just knitting and not writing a pattern at the same time, I find it a good moment to listen to entire albums, as I can pay attention and enjoy the music.
