Meri's Fantasy Knitting 15: I Want to Create My Own Flower Field

妄想編み物15: 私だけの花畑が作りたい

Hello everyone, it’s been a while! I had been searching for a project for this series since around spring, but I couldn't find anything at all that I wanted to knit for summer. While I was feeling stuck in that rut, more than half a year flew by. And you know what? A super rare knitting craze has finally hit me. I haven't knitted every single day without fail in, I don't know how many years!

I'll introduce what I'm currently knitting in a separate post, but today’s "Fantasy Knitting" pick is the Wildflower Tee. It’s a design that really gets your imagination running wild!

You might be thinking, "Wait, isn't that a summer top?" But let's be honest, in Japan, if you knit a short-sleeved top in wool, you barely ever get a chance to wear it. I've knitted several in the past, and I honestly almost never wear them. So, modifying this into a long-sleeved sweater is definitely the only way to go. I could knit it in Parade, but somehow, I feel like this particular colorwork calls for a wool yarn. Instead of the draping quality of Parade, I want that crisp, distinct texture of wool.

There are practically a bazillion round-yoke colorwork sweaters out there in the world, but what makes this pattern so special is the creativity of the knitters. Everyone uses their own unique color combinations, and many add duplicate stitch or embroidery to the flower motifs—it is just ridiculously cute! Whether they embroider just a few flowers or make every single one colorful, every time I see project photos on Ravelry or Instagram, I just squeal with delight. You all have to check out the Ravelry project pages for yourselves. A pattern that invites knitters to add their own personal touches and variations—I feel like this might just be an absolute masterpiece.

Since it was released as a summer pattern, hardly anyone has adapted it into a long sleeves version yet, but I am so excited to see what kind of variations pop up as we head into winter. I also love Dragonfly by the same designer, and I'm torn about which one I should cast on first. Definitely a designer to watch right now!
