Staff Projects: Let's knit NORO Yarn!

NORO Yarns are extremely popular around the world for their rustic texture and beautiful dyes. Due to popular demand from our overseas customers, we have started selling 50g Kureyon balls exclusively in-store!
Kureyon is a 100% wool yarn that looks like it was hand-spun. It's fun to watch the colors change from one to the next, and it feels luxurious. It's cute when it's mixed with similar colors, but we also recommend unexpected color combinations that you wouldn't normally use together.
Based on the idea that "we spin yarn by hand. We use machines only for what cannot be done by hand," the industry incorporates a lot of manual labor, with artisans measuring and arranging the dyed raw wool by hand, and then slowly spinning it by hand or machine.
The weight is about the same as Aran on average, but the unevenness of the yarn, which is sometimes thicker and sometimes thin, and sometimes tightly twisted, gives it the warmth of a handmade product.
If you want to try knitting this, we recommend the Sophie Scarf, which is knitted from one ball. Aiko from the Kyoto store knitted it in color 475. She wrapped it nicely so that all the colors are visible. It's colorful, but each one has a calm taste, so it looks easy to use.
First, measuring the weight of the yarn in grams, then gradually increasing the number of stitches from one end, and when half the yarn has been used, start decreasing the number of stitches.
"It wasn't that difficult to knit, and I was able to knit smoothly while enjoying the changes in color!"
The hat that Ayako knitted was Daniel's Hat , designed by Ysolda Teague. It's available for free on Ravelry. She used two balls.
The foldovers are 2x2 rib and the body is brioche knit. Color is 481.
"It has a simple knitting feel, and the finished fabric has a warm, cozy feel to it," says Ayako.
As she knitted, excited to see how the colors would change, the result was a regular stripe pattern, contrary to her expectations. "It seems like you can create pieces with different impressions depending on whether you take the yarn from the inside or outside of the ball. It's interesting to see color combinations that I would never have thought of, and I can see why the Noro brand is so popular!"
We are sorry that we only sell in-store, but if you are near our Tokyo or Kyoto stores, please stop by and see us.
