Hagoromo by Ayako Kataoka

Hagoromo by Ayako Kataoka

What, if any, challenges did you encounter during the design process?
I worked carefully to balance the way the brioche expands from the neckline in flowing lines, branching out irregularly. I also made sure that the overall look would not change even when the size changes.

If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?
I think dark combinations such as charcoal gray + navy, or olive green + dark brown would also be easy to wear. I’d also like to try knitting it with a yarn that has strong variegation and speckles, paired with a simple yarn that matches it.
For myself, I am knitting it in amirisu Swing in pyrargyrite + mushroom.

How did you start your knitting journey?
My mother used to knit when she was younger, and we had needles and books at home, so I started knitting in elementary school.

What made you decide to become a designer?

I applied—imitating what I saw—to a design call from amirisu, and that became the beginning. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me.

Among the patterns you have designed so far, which one do you like the most?
My favorite is Welle, the cowl included in Northern Lights, the pattern book created in collaboration between Brooklyn Tweed and amirisu.
Unfortunately, Arbor from Brooklyn Tweed is no longer available, but I think it would also turn out beautifully knitted in amirisu Stroll.
