Amelie by Julie Weisenberger

1. What challenges did you encounter during the design process?

Knitting intarsia can be a bit challenging! Because the yoke is seamless, it means you are working with 5 balls of yarn simultaneously...but only for the yoke rows, so it doesn't last too long.

2. If you were to knit this design in another color, what would it be?

I have already knit another! I knit it in linen yarn with a dark charcoal body and sleeves (no intarsia, see above!) with a terracotta button band and collar. I have plans to knit another in soft wool so I have both summer and winter versions. I am trying to choose between bright colors or muted neutrals...or maybe a combination!

3. How did you start your knitting journey?

I was studying in Salzburg, Austria and saw so many people knitting, it made me want to try. That's where I learned and it turned into a career in design.

4. What made you decide to become a designer?

I had already been designing sweaters for ready-to-wear and found that designing sweaters for hand knitters was much more hands-on and fulfilling. It has been especially fun to help home knitters achieve professional-looking results and fit.

5. Among the patterns you’ve designed so far, which one is your favorite?

My favorite is always the one I am currently working on, or have just finished. So right now, Amelie is my favorite! Thanks to amirisu for prompting me to design this sweater, it was such a fun collaboration!
