Meri's Fantasy Knitting 13: I want to knit Ariana

妄想編み物13: Arianaが編みたい

One of the pieces that has long been on my “someday I want to knit this” list is the Amy Christoffers' Ariana cardigan..

Amy is a designer with quite a long career. She began as an independent designer, went on to become the head designer at the yarn company Berroco, and more recently seems to be working independently again. I’ve met her a few times at events, and she’s a bit shy but wonderful person. She has many well-known designs to her name, including Pressed Flower.

This cardigan is available as a free pattern on Berroco’s website. Since it’s knit with worsted-weight yarn, it looks like a project you can really dig into and make steady progress on. With crochet having a bit of a resurgence lately, I thought this would be a good time to share it. Although the pattern was released four years ago, it still feels like a very popular design.

There are over 1,000 projects listed on Ravelry, and I’ve been browsing through them while daydreaming about color choices. The approach I have in mind is this:

  • Knit all of the blocks in the same color

  • Match the tone of the knitted ribbing with the motif color (avoiding very dark shades or stark white)

  • Stick with mid-tones overall

The pattern comes in two sizes. It looks to have a fairly relaxed fit, so I’ve been wondering whether it might work nicely knit with a slightly lighter-weight yarn. Something like GENMOU could be a good option.
