We are excited to host an embroidery workshop with artist Adriana Torres!
Adriana is a world-renowned craft artist from Argentina. Her work beautifully balances glamour and simplicity, captivating viewers with her rich, sophisticated sense of color and the unique textures created through a variety of techniques.
We will be hosting her "Play & Mend" class in Kyoto. In this workshop, you will learn darning techniques for repairing clothing in a fun and playful way.
The workshop will be interpreted into Japanese, so those who are not confident in English can participate with peace of mind.
At the beginning of the class, you will be given a piece of fabric printed with a "chair wearing a sweater" pattern. We will start by playing a game where you intentionally tear, cut, and damage the fabric. Once the game is over, it’s time to start darning!
Adriana will explain simple repair techniques before the game and more complex techniques afterward. By the end of the workshop, you will have completed a one-of-a-kind darning sampler.
The printed fabric, thread, and needles are included in the participation fee. Please bring an embroidery hoop and scissors. You are also welcome to bring fabric scraps if you would like to use them. A handmade guidebook will also be provided.
