These are striking socks with fresh stripes that crisscross, yet come together cohesively. Any knitter would be curious to know how they're constructed.
The design is inspired by "small hills," which are like panels dividing the instep, sole, and leg sections. This imagery comes from the bocage landscape seen in Western France and other regions.
The designer Tomo commented, "I tried to express the feeling of walking through a constantly expansive hilly landscape in these socks. The speckled pattern on the wrong side of the sock can also look like hedgerows, so it's a good idea to weave in ends neatly and coordinate the wrong side, or to twist the leg to stretch out the creases in the valley between the leg and instep."
The cuff is knitted in the round, and then the leg to toe is knitted flat, while simultaneously forming a tube by decreasing three stitches together at each edge. The heel is made with German short rows.
This pattern includes two versions: a two-color stripe version, and a normal version with a different color only for the cuff and toe.
